Red Ensign Flag - Printed
Ā
Showing the country of registry of a vessel, the Red Ensign indicates it's nationality. It should be placedĀ as close to the stern as possible, the most senior position. A UK flagged vessel must fly her Ensign when entering or leaving a port overseas, and is recommended that it is worn at all times in daylight, especially when near to, or in sight of land or another vessel.Ā If UK registered, a vessel should wear the Red Ensign, the national maritime flag, unless entitled to wear a special Ensign e.g. Blue, White. A general guide to the suitable size of Ensign for the vessel would be; 3/4yd for boats of 21-26', 1 yd for boats 27-34', 1 1/4yd for 35-42', 1 1/2yd for 43-50', 1 3/4 for 51-60' but some discretion is advised. Tatty or faded flags may cause offence.
